Hello, I’m Jane!

I am the owner and operator of Joanie May Photography. Named for my grandmother, Joan – or more fondly, “Joanie” – who was not only one of my best friends, but my biggest supporter in my journey to become a photographer.

I have been head over heels in love with horses for over 20 years and am currently a horse mom to two beautiful rescues. When I received my first camera as a teenager, I became unstoppable and have since combined my passion for horses and capturing life in a frame by becoming an equine photographer.

In 2017 I adopted a five year old Lusitano named Heroico. The moment I met him I knew he would be a whirlwind that changed my life forever. I planned a lifetime of adventures with him, but little did I know, two and a half years later, after a brief and unexpected illness, I would make the most difficult decision of my life and let him gain his wings. He had lent them to me for as long as he could, and I had to give them back. 

Heroico has inspired me to help others through their hardest moments, which is why I offer the “Hero” package to capture a horses’ last moments, and support you through one of the bravest, and most selfless thing you can do – letting them go.

In 2020, I adopted a sweet chestnut gelding and named him Sparrow. He is the inspiration for the names of my main packages, with my flagship being called “Sparrow” and the others being named for my love of birds.

I hope to have the opportunity to work together and capture these precious moments between you and your equine partner.
